Gut Health
Every path to health begins with a healthy gut, which refers to the digestive system, primarily the large intestine. The microbiome is the bacteria that populate the gut. In fact, bacteria cells are thought to outnumber human cells, so you could say we are as much bacteria as we are human! These bacteria are key to immune function, working with the body to consume and kill viruses, toxins, and harmful bacteria. They produce vitamins and hormones, and they influence personalit

Heart Happy Sprinkle
I love to use herbal sprinkles when possible because of the convenience of easily adding them to foods while cooking. They not only add flavor to food but provide another way to get herbal power into the body. This particular sprinkle comes from Rosemary Gladstar's Medicinal Herbs for Beginners book. All the herbs in this sprinkle help to strengthen, support and protect the heart and blood. Ingredients 2 parts hawthorn berry powder 1 part cinnamon powder ½ part ginger pow

UTI Formula
I had a friend that had been suffering with multiple urinary tract infections and the antibiotics she kept being given were making matters worse for her. She asked in desperation what she could do to get rid of this very uncomfortable infection. I found a great formula from Rosemary Gladstar in her Medicinal Herbs for Beginners and made a few of my own adjustments to it. I also suggested she drink plenty of fluids, including plain cranberry juice which must be pure - many gro

Kidney Support
Most of the liquid in the body must be filtered and pumped through the urinary tract. With the standard American diet and all the toxins around us, this can be quite the challenge for the liver and kidneys. In addition to diet and removing as many toxins from your environment as possible, this formula can be used for sluggish kidneys, to increase urine flow and decrease water retention and to strengthen and support the urinary tract. Mix the herbs together and use as a tea, t

Kiddie Calm
Not only is this a wonderful blend for upset stomach and digestive concerns but is calming for stress or anxiety relief and a mild pain reliever. The herbs are gentle enough for babies and children and can help with colic, teething, and discomfort. Mix equal parts of the following herbs: Spearmint Chamomile Lemon balm Catnip Make into a tea, extract or syrup. Personal Experience This was my go to when my children were younger for whenever they came to me complaining of a

Heal All (Sick Syrup)
This herb blend has been around a very long time and can be found in just about every herb book you can open. Each herbalist calls it something different and I have even given it my own name. My kiddos always referred to it as sick syrup (because they know it in glycerite form) and I like to call it "Heal All" because it seems to do just that. No matter the ailment I always use this blend, many times combining it with others. It is the number one thing I make sure to have on

Gum & Tooth Powder
Tooth Powder This tooth powder is a modified version of Dr. Christopher's Herbal Tooth and Gum Powder. It can be used to brush your teeth in place of toothpaste (get brush wet and sprinkle powder over the brush or dip into container), to strengthen gums, tighten loose teeth, stop cavity formation and rebuild enamel. Make sure each herb is powdered before adding it to the formula. 6 parts comfrey 3 parts oak bark 3 parts horsetail 3 parts peppermint 2 parts slippery elm 1 part

Foraged Antibiotic Formula
This is a powerful herbal antibiotic formula from Darcy Williamson in Healing Plants of the Rocky Mountains. All these herbs are found all over the Rocky Mountain area as foraging plants. Darcy suggests taking in small frequent doses several times throughout the day. 4 parts arrowleaf balsamroot 2 parts lomatium 2 parts gumweed 1 part red clover

Dr. Christopher's Glandular Formula
This is a super simple formula by Dr. Christopher to support the lymph system of the body. The lymph system is made of lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes (many refer to as glands) and lymphoid organs which include the tonsils, thymus, spleen, Peyer's patches (located in the intestine) and the appendix. Lymph are an important part of the immune system so keeping them cleansed and nourished means they are working at 100% for your body by getting rid of invaders such as viruses and

Heartburn Tea
The only time I have ever experienced heartburn was during my pregnancies until a couple of years ago when I had a shocking case manifest where I not only experienced a burning in the esophagus but it felt like I had a boiling volcano in my stomach that would not go away. I had gotten down to only eating toast so as not to aggravate it further. Although I had no idea what stemmed it, I took action by getting rid of it with a few herbs. I mixed together this blend and sippe

Gut Soother Formula
I was guided to create this formula when I working on healing my son's gut after a dose of antibiotics had wiped out his immune system and damaged his intestinal tract. It can be used to soothe, support, strengthen and heal the gut by tightening "leaks" and soothing inflammation. It can also help with any digestive and stomach issues. The herbs in this blend are very palatable so it makes a great tea but can also be made into an extract, syrup or capsules. Ingredients 3 parts

Liver Cleanse & Support
The liver is one of the major cleansing vessels of the body. It digests fat, regulates blood sugar, aids in protein digestion, processes hormones, aids in kidney function, manufactures antibodies, and most importantly, removes toxins from inside and outside the body. Everything that goes into or onto the body is processed through the liver, where it is broken down and either absorbed by the body or eliminated through the intestines or kidneys. If the liver is over taxed wit

Dr. Christopher's Lower Bowel Formula
Did you know that 90% of all health problems and disease stem from the health of your colon? It is important to keep this important organ cleansed and working properly so your body can readily assimilate the food you eat and properly eliminate garbage and toxins from the body. Of course you must first start with putting nutrient rich foods in it in the first place, so work towards a whole foods diet. Mix these powdered herbs together for capsules or make as a tincture. Ingre

Ginger Lemon Tea
This tea is my go to for colds, flu, and respiratory issues and because it tastes so yummy my children readily drink it. It also works wonders for treating PMS cramping, upset stomachs and morning sickness. You can drink this cold in the summer months as a refreshing lemonade, but for medicinal purposes it is better to drink it warm. Ingredients 4 Tbsp fresh grated ginger (I keep mine in the freezer so it doesn't go bad and it makes for easier grating) 1 quart water 2 fresh

Ginger Bath for Sickness, Aches & Pain
There is no simpler way for healing your body than taking a long, hot, ginger bath. A ginger bath can increase circulation and body temperature, killing bacteria, viruses, and fungal infections. Having a ginger bath can ease menstrual cramps and stop early labor by increasing oxygen to the uterus, allowing it to relax. On the flip side a ginger bath can also increase labor at term if it has slowed due to fatigue. Just make sure to take a beverage to the bath with you, as y
